'Autumn Garden’ Tablescape
Garden Designer Katie Oglesby, and Lifestyle Blogger Mary Alice Myers teamed up to create garden-inspired tablescapes for fall. This blog is one of five we are featuring to inspire all of you to elevate your table and bring the garden and outdoor elements in for a cozy, organic feel at your table that impresses your guests and sets the tone for your fall gathering.
Sometimes it’s as easy as using a traditional cotton print tablecloth to set the mood or theme for your table. The colors here are a bit unexpected for a garden party which made it so much fun to work with! The copper and sage greens colors played beautifully with the natural surroundings. Don't be afraid to think outside the box when deciding on a color scheme for your tables. Get creative as you infuse autumn into your dining experience and put together unique DIY tablescapes that capture the warmth and beauty of fall.
This beautiful hand-printed table cloth and chocolate brown napkins (both from Just Darviny) served as the backdrop for a simple place setting. For the base, we placed a copper charger plate (Hobby Lobby), topped with a dinner plate size salad bowl in sage green. The real showstopper is the chunky glass handled flatware (Paper Dolls Home Furnishings).
I really think vintage glass goblets are always a good choice – you can mix them into any table setting and they add interest where you wouldn’t expect it.
I found the feather inspired cocktail napkins (Fontana Home), which perfectly complimented the tablecloth. I used them to decoupage a set of mushrooms to add as a decorative accent..
A few of the other fun pieces featured: another Mary Alice Bowl in apple green (For Pete’s Sake Pottery) surrounded by fresh onions from the garden and a cast iron flying pig. Why not add a little whimsy? He certainly looks right at home here!
Once the table was set, Katie added elements from her garden. Three potted rosemary topiaries served as our main focal point and added height to the tablescape. And the lumpy pumpkin was definitely a conversation piece. Never shy away from adding in the weird stuff, you want your guests to enjoy themselves at your table! A mini white pumpkin and a sprig of rosemary at each place setting created that “welcome to our table” feeling. And lets not forget a fresh bowl of fall raspberries!
So, the basic guidelines for an “Autumn Garden” inspired tablescape:
You can’t go wrong with vintage glass goblets.
Adding elements of all different heights adds visual interest.
Lean into your personal style. Do you feel drawn toward a lumpy pumpkin, or a plate design that you think is a little “out there”? Use it! Guests love to see a unique setting, and often those details we’re unsure of end up being the crowd favorites.
