'Chinoiserie Chic’ Tablescape
Garden Designer Katie Oglesby, and Lifestyle Blogger Mary Alice Myers teamed up to create garden-inspired tablescapes for fall. This blog is one of five we are featuring to inspire all of you to elevate your table and bring the garden and outdoor elements in for a cozy, organic feel at your table that impresses your guests and sets the tone for your fall gathering.
There’s no better way to celebrate the seasonal abundance of your garden than by bringing the natural beauty to your dining table. Garden-to-table doesn’t always mean you have to cook or bake, you can also decorate with garden beauty like colorful herbs, seasonal blooms, and even fruits and veggies. Get creative as you infuse autumn into your dining experience and put together unique DIY tablescapes that capture the warmth and beauty of fall.
Blue and white is my favorite color scheme. I have a hard time doing any project without adding some blue and white into the mix. And since Fall is all about the color orange, it made perfect sense to pair it with this iconic blue, white and chinoiserie setting! It is truly one of the most pleasing looks you can work with! – Mary Alice
Throwing down this beautiful orange tablecloth was the perfect start for our table. The tablecloth is another fabric remnant from Joann Fabrics, and was under $20. For the settings, we used:
Blue and white floral charger plates (Hobby Lobby)
Burnt orange pottery plates (vintage)
White salad plates (Provvista Designs)
Accent plates (MacKenzie Childs)
And then to balance out the table with more casual items, we added some whimsy with the pumpkin mug (Giddy Paperie) and custom monogrammed napkins in a chinoiserie pattern, tied with a ribbon for a personal touch.
Once the table was set, Katie added elements from the garden. From Katie’s Garden…
We filled the painted ceramic heads with hydrangea and bittersweet berries, making a dramatic statement piece. Small sprigs of berries at the individual place settings carried the look across the table. Using gingham bowls filled with a pumpkin and greens made for a fun place card holder. And finally, white and orange pumpkins mixed in with blue and white vintage pieces tied this look together.
So, the basic guidelines for a “Chinoiserie Chic” inspired tablescape:
Start with a bold tablecloth in a color that compliments your table settings.
Pick a statement piece, and then carry the style across the whole table with matching details at every place setting.
Choose a balance of intricate details blended with whimsical pieces for a fun, cohesive style.
