Custom Garden Design: Kitchen Garden Trio
Client: A family in Itasca, Illinois
Custom Garden Design:
- Three 10’x4′ raised beds for the kitchen garden
- One 10’x4′ raised bed flower garden
- Custom designed square-rod trellises for climbing plants
- All raised beds were painted with a gray non-toxic milk-paint finish to match the color palette of the family home
Tip: It’s always a good idea to mix flowers in your kitchen garden, because they attract pollinators that will keep your plants healthy! The Chicago Botanic Garden website has a great list of flowers to plant in your vegetable garden.
Garden Installation Process:
We worked closely with the clients to design a kitchen garden that reflected their personal style. The kitchen garden matches the family’s home, a modern farmhouse. We carried the white, black, and gray color palette from the house into the garden, painting the raised beds to create one cohesive aesthetic throughout the property. The custom trellises connecting the raised beds were designed with a square rod look to stay consistent with the existing lines of the home.
This garden is a beautiful addition to the family’s landscaping makeover and pairs with a new patio pergola and outdoor bar to create a true oasis in the backyard. Can’t you just imagine hosting a garden party here? It’s the perfect outdoor space to entertain guests.
Kitchen Garden Trio Highlights:
As first time gardeners, the family is looking forward to enjoying fresh food straight out of their backyard. And fewer trips to the grocery store! Mother and daughter are fully embracing a healthy garden-to-table lifestyle. They plant to incorporate garden fresh foods into their diets with salads, herbs, and veggies.
We love to see family members enjoying the garden together. Did you know the garden can help kids learn skills to build a healthy, balanced life? Your whole family can reap the benefits of the garden-to-table lifestyle.
