Garden Installation Process:

This garden was one of my favorite design projects. The family had recently built their gorgeous home and the next step was the addition of a kitchen garden.

Each garden I design and install is unique to the client and their property. When I came out to this home to scout the location, the sun led me to the front yard. This was actually the first time I’ve ever designed a front yard garden, and I appreciate that the clients trusted me with the location. They put a lot of work into their beautiful house, so I focused on designing the garden to compliment their home and add to the curb appeal of the property.

Honestly, the minute I stepped onto this property, I knew the beds had to be black. Which was another first for me – I usually go natural with the cedar beds. There were several aspects about the home that inspired me, but one very important detail caught my eye and was the focus of my designs.  Can you guess?

This stunning black paver brick driveway.  Something about it drew me in from the beginning. I love the way the black beds on the white stone complement the home, but also are visually stunning on their own. We custom painted the cedar beds to match perfectly with the home, and chose a white limestone with black edging to make the beds pop.

Kitchen Garden Highlights

When a property already has an established style like this home, my goal when customizing a garden is to stay in line with the existing aesthetic, and then accentuate and highlight specific details throughout my design. For this home, one of those details is the custom arch. This arch is bigger in size than most arches to match the scale of the home. The arch is a focal point of the garden, and the obelisks balance out the height on each end of the garden.

The best part of this kitchen garden project? The client wants to add even more edible features to their home! Stay tuned, because this project is just beginning.
