I recently had the pleasure of talking about gardening as a path to healthier living with Jane Hogan, The Wellness Engineer, on her podcast Wellness by Design. Jane believes we all have the power to achieve optimal wellness by intentionally designing a life based on what your own body needs, and well, I have to agree with her. If you’re familiar with my story, you know a bad reaction to hair dye led to anaphylactic shock, and that was the wake-up call I needed to start being intentional about my lifestyle choices, and is what ultimately started me on the path to a grounded, holistic, balanced life.
But you don’t have to have a medical emergency to start making healthier choices
Living in health means more than just a green smoothie every morning. In the podcast, Jane reminds us that what we put on our skin goes into our body. Once you realize how many products we use everyday that contain harmful chemicals, you won’t hesitate to switch to natural products. You can check out EWG for more info on the chemicals found in personal care and household products, or shop some of my tried and true faves like Primally Pure (use code KATIEOGLESBY10 for 10% off!).
And of course, we talked about gardening! We discuss:
・reasons why growing your own food is one of the best things you can do for your nutrition
・how starting a garden might be easier than you think (with tips to start today!)
・succession planting (so you’re not drowning in zucchini and tomatoes at the end of August!)
・best soil practices, including how to know what soil composition you need based on location
・the ONE thing you can do for your health today
